When to See a Tutor You need help with homework questions To help explain concepts and discuss ideas To give you study strategies for quizzes and tests You feel that you are beginning to fall behind and need some help What to Bring to a Tutoring Session Textbooks Notes Past quizzes or tests Class syllabus Homework Workbook problems or problem sets Do's Be familiar with the material you will be working on before using tutoring. Come with a list of questions. Raise your hand to get a tutor's attention if you have a question. Share with your tutor any preferred way of learning that you may have. Recognize that this is a drop-in tutoring center. Tutors will need to circulate frequently. Try to sit with students who are taking the same class so that you can share ideas. Get to know your instructor and teaching assistant and visit them during office hours. They are still your best source of information for your classes. Get to know where else on campus you can go for help. There are many resources on campus that are available to assist you. Ask your tutor for a list. Don'ts Do not ask your tutor to give you the answers or to do your homework for you. They are here to help you learn how to do the work yourself. Learning is a process. If you do not do your own homework, you won't learn. Don't wait until the day before or day of a quiz or test to get help. Help may not be available. Learning takes time, effort and planning. Don't come to tutoring unprepared. You should have already covered the material and tried to work through any problems.
